Utopia was a work of fiction and political satire written by Thomas More in 1516. Originally written in Latin, it discussed many political and social concepts, such as the Social Contract Theory. The central idea of the book was, if stranded on a new island together, how would society act? It was important because it was the first book to bring about living in a “Utopia”, or a perfect world. It is an expression of More’s humanistic ideas, in which he questions if humans should really have to give their power to a ruler, such as a King.
