Executive Order 8802 was issued by FDR and prohibited “discrimination in the employment of workers in defense industries and in Government because of race, creed, color, or national origin".

It came after civil rights leader A. Philip Randolph threatened to organize a march on Washington to protest segregation and discrimination in the armed forces and defense industries as America prepared for war.
