The Distant Early Warning Line (Dew Line) was a Cold War communications system which comprised of more than 60 manned radar stations and extended for more than 4,800 km from northwestern Alaska to eastern Baffin Island. The DEW Line was used to detect any intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs) fired from the Soviet Union early so people in the landing area could react and evacuate.
