In an attempt to try and make things run faster Mao came up with the five-year plan called the Great Leap Forward
The outcome of this rule was hoped to increase industrial output
China started modern machinery and ran it constantly.
While the government was relying on people producing their own iron and steel
This rule created huge farm communities that included farms and small industries
While they worked children were cared for in nurseries
The workers were paid based off a point system which was gender, age, skills, type of job, and region
In total the planned failed resulting in the industrial output decreasing and food shortages leaving millions of people starving and dying from the lack of food
