To speed up Chinese industry Mao Zedong's government announced a second Five Year-Plan and it would be named “The Great Leap Forward”.
China hoped that this would increase industrial output to that of the West.
People had to work on farms and in factories to help Chinese output, and large farm communities were created because of The Great Leap Forward.
The Great Leap Forward turned out to be a terrible failure, as many as 20 million people died because of starvation, and Chinese industry even got setback a couple of years because of the failure
