Where Jewish religious accounts and current academic historical scholarship disagree, this timeline attempts to show both possibilities. As such, several events are marked [biblical], [traditional], and [historical]. Where there is no such overt disagreement, no marker is used.

This timeline can perhaps never be complete, and is certainly a work in progress right now. Many important works of Jewish literature and movements of thought are missing.
