The laws purpose was to track down runaway slaves/ fugitives and attempted to capture them and return them to their Southern owners as they traveled to Northern states. The law put fugitive slave cases under jurisdiction of the Federal Government and issue warrants of arrest for fugitives.Añadido al timeline:
