14 agos 1814 año - Burning of the White House

Descripción:

As the War of 1812 involved the U.S to initiate military action such as the three-part invasion of Canada and the significant American raid and burning of government building in York, Toronto in 1813 led to British retaliation against the U.S. British forces arrived at the White House with the intention of destruction. President Madison and First Lady Dolley abandoned the White House for their safety, and the British consequently ransacked and set the institution ablaze. Its significance lies in the efforts by First Lady Dolley saving an important historic artifacts of U.S history such as a full-length portrait of former president George Washington from ruins. Also, despite British forces attempt to receive an upper-hand in the war the U.S continued in defense ultimately unifying the nation and wearing out Great Britain in their war efforts.
