As the U.S faced pressures due to the continuous violation of the nation's neutral rights at sea and troubles on the western frontier by British forces, and the political influences of the war hawks, President Madison sought a declaration of war against Britain. Even though British government had by the time of June 1812 compromised in suspended its naval blockade. Consequently, the emergence of war against Britain at the time divided the nation and a rise division of opinion in the upcoming election of 1812.
