1 ene 1517 año - Luther's 95 Theses

Descripción:

Martin Luther proposes his 95 theses for reforming the Church, in a protest against its immorality. This triggered reformatory movements in the Christian world - the Reformation, which subsequently lead to the next big schism in Christianity.

Following the excommunication by pope Leo X, Luther founded his own Lutheran church. Thanks to the invention of the printing press, he was able to spread his views with ease, gaining acclaim and backing among German humanists.

Others, sometimes more radical figures, followed suit. Calvinism and other protestant denominations were born.

The events ushered in a new era of reforms within the Catholic church across the whole Europe, known as Counter-Reformation.

More generally, both movements left a long-lasting, profound impact on European culture.
