What's more, this robbery changed how organized crime functioned in the UK. Up until this, everyone dealt in cash. Cash has serial numbers and is therefore traceable. Gold, on the other hand, while numbered and somewhat traceable, can be melted down, mixed with other metals, and made untraceable.
