20 mar 1852 año - Stowe publishes Uncle Tom’s Cabin

Descripción:

1)Harriet Beecher Stowe published an anti-slavery novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, which revealed the miserable lives of south slaves. Northerners saw the true horror of slavery, whereas Southerners protested that Stowe’s work was slanderous, for they argued that the real slavery was better than the book described. 2) Uncle Tom’s Cabin was the second-best-selling book in America in the 19th century, second only to the Bible. Its popularity brought the issue of slavery to life for those few who remained neutral and widened the division between North and South. When President Abraham Lincoln met Stowe in 1862, he reportedly said, “So this is the little lady who made this big war.”
