Phenakistoscope was created by a Belgian physicist called Joseph Plateau with and Austrian professor of practical geometry name Simon Stampher.
ABOUT:
This device is a popular victorian parlour toy that widely considered to be the earliest forms of animation illustrator and also been released to modern cinema at the time. Its originally designed by hand painted, and was mass-produced under easier names; Phntasmascope, Fantoscope, Magic Wheel. As time flies, new technological toys are released so that Phenakistoscope can barely be seen and relegated to the pre-cinema.
FUNCTION:
The device operates by spinning the cardboard disk and view the reflection of the image through a moving slits. Through th distortion and flicker will create the illusion of the image moving as expected. However, it have to be spinning in the right speed to create a smooth illustration.
