The constitution of 1931 was approved on December 9, 1931. The constitution was liberal, reformist, and democratic in nature. It was also supported by the republican-socialist coalition. The constitution appalled industrialists, landowners, the organised church, and army officers. The constitution tried to secure religious liberty for religious organizations other than Roman Catholics, halting discrimination and persecution of Protestants and Jewish people.
