In response to the right-wing Falange taking control of the republican government, Catalonia declared independence from Spain, which resulted in an immediate general strike and armed action in the territory. this resulted in martial law being declared and spanish military forces moving into the territory and wuelling the insurrection. the military attacked several catalan government buildings, and withing a day the rebellion was over.
