Within the 1936 election, the Popular Front which was a left-wing alliance of many Spanish parties. The main reason that this election was held was because of the collapse the government led by Alejandro Lerroux, and his Radical Republican Party. l Azaña would replace Manuel Portela Valladares, caretaker, as prime minister.
