4 oct 1934 año - Asturian Miners' Strike
Descripción:
This was a major strike action against the entry of CEDA into the Spanish government. The left republicans could not do much to protest because the formation of a new government was the result of a parliamentary process, and that the parties coming to government had won the previous year's free elections and could not be denied their positions. Though the uprising was brief, 1,500 miners were killed in the fighting, with another 30,000 to 40,000 taken prisoner. The repression of the uprising carried out by the colonial troops was very harsh and included looting, rape and summary executions. The revolt is seen as "the first battle of" the Spanish Civil War.
