This coup was a series of assassinations that were nationalistic and militaristic that were designed and set up to over throw the government. On July 12, a member of the Falange murdered Jose Castillo who was a lieutenant in the Assault Guards Police Force. He was a socialist. The next day the guards arrested Jose Calvo Soleto, they were going to arrest Gil-Robles but he could not be found. The guards shot and killed Soleto. These deaths gave the nationsalists even more reason to comtinunte with their planned coup.
