1 ene 1747 año - James Lind conducted his experiments
Descripción:
he took 12 men who all had similar symptoms of scurvy and divided them into 6 pairs. he then treated them with different techniques, testing to see which one will cure the sickness.
he fed them:
1. a quart of cider a day
2. 25 drops of elixir of vitriol, three times a day
3. half a pint of sea-water a day
4. a nutmeg-sized paste of garlic, mustard seed, horse-radish, balsam of Peru, and gum myrrh three times a day
5. two spoonfuls of vinegar, three times a day
6. and two oranges and one lemon a day
by the end of the week he found that the pair eating the citrus fruits everyday were well enough to get back to work. this is when he found that eating citrus is the cure to scurvy
this occurred while the ship was patrolling the Bay of Biscay
