The Spanish civil war was a conflict between the Nationalists who wanted a dictatorship, led by General Francisco Franco and the Republicans who wanted a democratic government, led by Francisco Largo Caballero and Juan Negrín. This war claimed the lives of an estimated 500,000 people and ended in a Nationalist victory with Franco becoming the Dictator and Spain falling under Fascist control until 1975.Añadido al timeline:
