The Wright Brothers take flight with there first powered and controllable flyer at Kitty Hawk. several attempted are made on the day. Wilbur Wright achieves the longest flight at 255.6m in 59 seconds.

In 1901 the Wright Brothers had gathered all the data they needed to create the flyer and in 1902 had developed their latest most efficient glider, which would go on to become the glider they used as the body for the powered flyer.

for years after the Wright Brothers would attempt to sell their flying invention to the United States war departments and other governments or individuals in France, Germany, Russia, and England. Many people they contacted believed they were crazy and that there was no way they could produce working flying machines.

The Wright Brothers machines go on to be the foundation for more advanced planes and eventually modern planes and commercial airliners.
