Paying the allies triggered Germany’s economic collapse which meant hunger for millions of Germans. This caused great indignation among the people, and outrage about the compromise that Hitler eventually took power. The settlement against Germany was very punitive since Germany had lost the war. Germany was forced to accept responsibility for the Allies war losses.
