Staffed by mostly college-trained women idealists, they improved lives of slum dwellers in diverse ways. They formed residential community centers to combat issues of slums. Eventually organized government support for tenement law, juvenile courts, mothers´ pension, workers´ compensation, no more child labor, etc.
