Red Auerbach was born in 1917 and passed away in 2006. He is the second most successful NBA coach with 9 NBA championships. The NBA coach of the year award is named after him (The Red Auerbach Trophy). He started his NBA coaching career with the Boston Celtics in 1950 and coached them until 1966. Auerbach influenced basketball with his new strategies, for example, the fast break. Other teams were bamboozled with this scraggy and couldn't find a way to counter it. This is what made him one of the best coaches ever in basketball.
