This was tested by asking subjects to watch a video and asked them to count how many passes were made by the white team. This video moves at a moderate pace and keeping track is pretty easy. In the middle of the video a man in a gorilla costume walks out on the court and walks off. Many subjects were took focused on counting passes that they didn't notice the man.
