Freedom seeking slaves from Missouri make their way to caves at the base of the bluffs in Quindaro. They follow a road just east of (current day) Bell Crossing Drive to Henry Sortor's ravine (Happy Hollow) knowing once there, they were safe. Sortor was a conductor on the Underground Railroad.
