At the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in 1787 was organized to address the need for a stronger central government. At his convention the men in attendance create the United States Constitution. James Madison, as advised by Ben Franklin John Adams, intentionally left out the word any mentionings of slavery knowing that it would jeopardize the approval of the document by the south. . Mintz (2009) stated ¨The word ´slave´ does not appear in the Constitution.¨
