The Wounded Knee Massacre was the US government’s final effort to extinguish the native’s participation in the Ghost Dance. It was a chaotic event, Indians, as well as soldiers, were killed. Any Indians who escaped were hunted and killed, the casualties were in the hundreds. This was devestating to the unity of the plains people.
