This was when Thomas Edison invented the light bulb, this was a longer lasting and better source of light. It was also much safer and wouldn’t set things on fire. It lasted longer than 400 candles. But they weren’t cheap in fact they were about $850,000 in todays currency and started be cheaper and more available in the 1880’s. They are still used to this day but are rivaled by LED’s
