In the first ever attempt to use viral vectors as a theraputic treatment, Dr. W. French Anderson and his team used a virus to deliver the correct ADA gene to two girls, aged four and nine, to attempt to correct their ADA deficiency. They received treatments over two years which had no clear benefit, but no clear harm either. (NIH)
