We built a feature that lets employees follow not only blogs they are interested in, but also tags and people.
Each time there is a new post in a blog, tag or by a colleague that the employee is following, they will receive an on site and browser alert (push notification).

In order to follow a blog, tag or a person, all you have to do is click on the "Follow" button.
You can do that from several places including the blog page, tag page, individual posts, post author tooltip and user profile.
