1 ene 1882 año - Letter suggests Irish to be recruited as plantation laborers

Descripción:

According to Conrad (1999), “a letter to the editor of the Hawaiian Gazette in 1882 suggested that the Board of Immigration look into paying the passage for Irish peasants who were as ‘industrious as any other race on earth’ and would probably be willing to work for $10 or $12 per month. Nothing ever came from this suggestion, perhaps because of the Protestant missionary opposition to Roman Catholics” (p. 378-379).
