The fall of the Berlin Wall was an important moment in history because it reunited Germany which had been split up since the second world war. It also marked the fall of the "Iron Curtain". It took longer for the Soviet Union to fall, but between this and the loss of funding for Soviet Satellite states, the weakening of the Soviet Union was very visible in this time.
