Unfortunately, at the age of 65, Jacob Riis died on a farm in Barre, Massachusetts. He will always be remembered for his great work and attempts to help improve life in the Lower East Side of New York. His efforts were so important and well-known that Theodore Roosevelt, the 26th president of the U.S. befriended him. After he died, his wife continued tending to the farm, worked on Wall street, and taught at Columbia University.
