Descripción:

The legislation that provided for the admission of Maine to the United States as a free state along with Missouri as a slave state, thus maintaining the balance of power between North and South in the United States Senate. As part of the compromise, slavery was prohibited north of the 36°30′ parallel, excluding Missouri. the Missouri Compromise named "Mason and Dixon's line" (the "Mason–Dixon line") as part of the boundary between slave territory and free territory

Aditionaly, the 1819 Act to Protect the Commerce of the United States and Punish the Crime of Piracy is amended to consider the maritime slave trade as piracy, making it punishable by death.

It is later voided by Dred Scott v. Sandford because the Compromise exceeded the scope of Congress's powers
