Tower bridge is one of the calling cards of London and Britain as a whole on a par with Buckingham Palace and the Ferris wheel "London eye". The age of the structure exceeded a hundred years. However, the bridge is still beautiful, lively and interesting to the public, and brilliantly copes with its original function.
Construction of the bridge, later called the tower, began in 1886 and lasted eight years. During this time, participation in the process has taken five major contractors: D. Jackson, Baron Armstrong, William Webster, H. Bartlett and W. Arora. 432 people were involved in the construction. The total cost of the bridge at the time was 1 184 thousand pounds. The construction took more than 11 thousand tons of steel.
