A long-distance transmission of textual or symbolic messages without the physical exchange of an object bearing the message. Telegraphy requires that the method used for encoding the message be known to both sender and receiver.

Majority of us have heard and seen photographs of a telegraph but none of us have personally touch or use it since evolution of technologies began to emerge quickly paving way for more advanced devices, making communication even more efficient.
