A joint Anglo-American covert operation primarily organized by the 6 yearly CIA to overthrow the Iranian PM, Mohammad Mosaddegh. Mosaddegh was of a socialist leaning & planned to nationalism the oil reserves of Iran. Fearing a communist takeover in Iran, Britain & the US performed the coup & established a new PM however, vested most of the power in the hands of the reinstated Shah after he returned from his self-exilation.
