Laya Healthcare’s City Spectacular is an annual summer festival held in the cities of Dublin (Merrion Square) and Cork (Fitzgerald Park). The festival is Irelands biggest free and family friendly summer festival. Events include street performances, interactive family activities/workshops and international street food. The festival provides families with the opportunity to “play, dance and create together.” There is even a pet wellness area and a dog show (Scruffs Dog Show). Family health, fitness and well-being are central to the festival, with the focus being on children’s health. The festival provides free kids aerobics, yoga and dance classes.
Street performances include aerial acrobatic shows, breakdancing, daredevil juggling, football freestyling, comedy-magic and ventriloquism.
The ESB provides an area for children to indulge in creativity. The ‘Spark Your Imagination’ area intends to “inspire, educate and feed the imagination”. The area provides creative writing workshops and science and electricity shows.
The festival hosts a ‘Kids Court’, which is always a popular event. ‘Kids Court’ is known for mess and mischief. Children are given the opportunity to put their parents on trial, with sentencing resulting in a pie-to-the-face or a bucket of ice-cold water being thrown over the parents. (Laya Healthcare)
