Presidnet John F. Kennedy passed the Equal Pay Act, an amendment to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. The Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from discriminating based on sex and requires that each sex be paid equally for substantially equal jobs, based on skill, effort, and responsibility.
