Shirley Christian was student editor of The Jayhawk. Christian graduated from Rosedale H.S. in 1956, KCKJC in 1958, Pittsburg State in 1960 with her Bachelor in Language and Literature, and later a Masters in International Journalism in 1966. She went on to become a foreign correspondent for the New York Times reporting on the Central American crises in 1970’s and 80’s. She became a Pulitzer Prize winner in 1981 for the Miami Herald. She published a book on the revolution in Nicaragua, and in 2004 published Before Lewis and Clark: A Story of the Chouteau.
