March 19th marked the start of the Iraq war and operation Iraqi freedom. At 5:30 AM the United States launched airstrikes on Saddam Hussein in Baghdad and ground troops entered the country from kuwait. President Bush addressed the nation saying “we will meet that threat now, with our Army, Air Force, Navy, Coast Guard and Marines, so that we do not have to meet it later with armies of firefighters and police and doctors on the streets of our cities”(Bush 8). Meaning that dissolving Saddam’s regime will protect the US citizens from more terror attacks like 9/11. (americanrhetoric.com)
