The British public -appalled by the huge loss of life demanded that their government stop supporting the US in the War on Terror.The government eager to survive itself responded forcefully by withdrawing its troops from the Middle East ,expelling all American bases from England and declaring it would no longer participate in any NATO action in the War on Terror-effectively ending the alliance.
