1 feb 1701 año - The Settlement Act

Descripción:

The Settlement Act was a law passed by the British Parliament that said no catholic monarch could inherit the throne of England. This measure undertaken by very limited democratic means showed a shift in societal trends of the upper class. It is clear now that after years of strife the dominant religion in England's upper class is protestant rather than catholic. This trend changed significantly from the ruling of earlier 17th century monarchs such as Henry VIII and James II. This also shows the continuity of the English seeking above all else stability of succession by limiting the possible inheretors of the throne so that less bloody competition would take place for it.
