The act renewed the Voting Rights Act of 1970, which was a major cause since it needs to be renewed every five years or so. A major effect would be that it added prtoections for minorities who did not speak English and it also provided ways for them to understand who/what exactly they were voting for in the polls.Añadido al timeline:
