This isn't good for Riel because a Metis named Norber is captured for no reason, and is accused of being a spy. However, Riel doesn't know this, which is bad because when Hugh Sutherland goes to tell Doc Schultz that the prisoners are released, Norbert escapes. It is very unfortunate timing because Norbert has a gun and thinks that Hugh is on Schultz's side, and shoots and kills him.
