This marked the end of the United States trading for slaves out of West Africa. This was outlined in the constitution, that the Slave trade would end 20 years after the ratification of the slave trade. This was due to the disagreement about slavery between the North and the South, and this was the compromise they agreed on.
The effect that this had on American culture was pretty important. This was an example of a compromise that was followed through with, and it ended pleasantly for both sides. It also led to an agreement between the polarized North and South, which was rare. Overall, it increased faith in America as a collective nation and positively affected the abolitionist movement and slaves.
