This is when President Jefferson repealed the Exercise taxes which taxed commodities such as Whiskey. He did this because the taxes had angered the people during John Adam's presidency and he wished to right that wrong as soon as possible. This lift created an increase in trade as the demand for these goods increased when the taxes lowered, which was critical as it appeased the American populous.
