17 ene 1852 año - Trial of Rachel Parker

Descripción:

This trial is a great example of the effects of the Slave Act in Baltimore. Rachel Parker and her sister were free women living in Pennsylvania. A slave catcher kidnapped them and brought them to Baltimore, claiming that they were fugitive slaves which he captured. A man who vouched for the two girls was lynched. Although courts determined that the girls were, in fact, free, the man who captured them went unpunished. Thus, this trial exemplifies the tension and deceit that arose from the Fugitive Slave Act.
