18 oct 1958 año - Tennis for Two

Descripción:

Tennis for Two was another game that was built for a public exhibition, this time for the Brookhaven National Laboratory's annual exhibition. It was designed by American Physicist William Higinbotham. William designed Tennis for Two after learning that the government research institution's Donner Model 30 analog computer could simulate wind resistance. Tennis for Two was displayed on a oscilloscope and had 2 custom aluminium controllers. The game itself was designed after only a few hours however William and Robert V. Dvorak took over 3 weeks to build it. The game's display showed a tennis court from a side view and the players could adjust the angle of their shots with 1 of the aluminium controllers and then try to hit the ball over the net with the other controller.

Tennis for Two was very popular during the 3 days it was on exhibition and had people lining up to play it, it was especially popular with high school students. This was not the last time Tennis for Two made a appearance however as a year at the next annual Brookhaven National Laboratory's exhibition and was upgraded with a larger screen and a more complicated design that allowed the simulation of different gravity levels. Tennis for Two was disassembled after the 3 day exhibition and was not brought out again. Since Brookhaven has made recreations of the original device.
